Upscale storage gets trendy.

SAN FRANCISCO — Upscale storage options are in the spotlight for home organization vendors at The Gourmet Products Show.

Vendors are tapping into today’s hot materials, including chrome looks, wicker and wrought iron.

In addition, new products are driven by bright hues and translucent finishes, from Frye International’s citrus-colored food storage items to Kaminstein Imports’ bucket in a combination of primary colors.

The Bag Stand unveils a lunch kit under the Pods brand. Made of molded, insulated foam, the kit has a large capacity and is designed with the adult office worker in mind. The kit is available in black, royal blue, teal and red and contains a packet of refreezable cooling material.

CHICAGO — Recognizing consumers’ desire to save time and energy on household chores, laundry care manufacturers are offering products designed to simplify their lives.

At last week’s housewares show, several makers unveiled ironing boards with features such as built-in cord holders and ironing rests that accommodate steam-generated irons. Whitney Design seeks to bring space-saving convenience to the category with its Iron ‘n Fold unit and its behind-the-door board. Others offered space-saving products and laundry sorters.

The Bag Stand Co. is offering new looks in its wood and PVC laundry hamper lines, including mahogany, painted black, white, gold and silver looks. In its PVC hampers, the vendor added mahogany, gold and silver finishes.

The Bag Stand freshened its laundry bag series with leopard, checked and striped patterns. The upscale bags are available in linen, duck fabric or regular sheeting. The company also has come out with citrus brights solid bags in teal, orange, yellow and royal blue.

CHICAGO – With a consolidated field of laundry care and cleaning suppliers, the remaining players are stepping up their efforts to develop broader lines of products. In related laundry care items, the focus increasingly is on products aimed at more upscale channels or appealing to consumers with more upscale tastes.

Vendors are turning more to wood and canvas and PVC. Hampers and sorters continue to be among the most active and competitive segments with several player expanding their offerings to encompass more fashionable looks.

The Bag Stand Co. is one of the first players to target specialty channels with PVC hampers, The Bag Stand Co. continues to expand its assortment in the category, this year crossing over into wood.

In addition to its broad assortment of PVC hampers and bags in fashion prints and solids, the company is introducing a hamper, a magazine rack, a garment rack and an over-the-toilet shelf, all in wood. Made in the U.S.A., all the items feature an unpainted finish.

Cadie Product Corp. is highlighting Krazy Kloth, a specially treated cloth designed to remove heel and scuff marks from floors, stains, ink and paint specks from furniture and paneling, clean copper, brass or chrome and remove stains from tile and porcelain.

FRANKFURT, Germany – After a long day pounding the aisles of Ambiente, the growing numbers of American housewares companies’ executives who want to do business in Europe were treated to a cocktail hour and buffet dinner hosted by the National Housewares Manufacturers Association.

This year’s German housewares show attracted such first-time Ambiente visitors as Bag Stand Co. within the NHMA American pavilion, as well as some companies like Wilton Industries, which moved from the pavilion to the show’s main floor.

The American Housewares Pavilion, sponsored by the NHMA, housed 22 member companies this year. On hand at the pavilion in the housewares section in Hall 8 were: The Bag Stand Co., Bonny Products, William Bounds Ltd., Cedar Fresh Home Products, Conimar Corp., FloTool International, Gal Aviv Ltd. U.S.A., Grainware Co., Joseph Enterprises, Lodge Mfg. Co., The Metal Ware CORP./NESCO, M&P Export Management/Chicago Metallic, OXO International, Progressive International, Smart Inventions, Trudeau, Willert Home Products, Inc. and Zak Designs. Attending in Hall 9, which showcased cleaning and storage products firms, were: Bacova Guild, Fast Industries, Transworld Marketing Group and Woodlore.

The American Pavilion also housed an exhibit by winners of the NHNA’s Housewares Design contest. Jennifer Nemec, inventor of the Noodlini pastamaker, and Charles Loeb-Munson, designer of the Pizza Press, were on hand to show off their creations.
